Growing up in sunny San Diego, most of the kids I knew spent their time playing outside. I, on the other hand, preferred to be indoors, surrounded by my favorite vintage fashion magazines. I would often spend hours daydreaming in a world full of creations from the pages of Hola, Vogue, Elle, and Bazzar. Inspired, I would venture off into my mom's closet, deconstruct her old blouses, and emerge with improved iterations. While these experiences definitely got me into lots of trouble, it marked the start of a long love affair with textiles and garments.

In 2007, I enrolled at Long Beach City College and completed an Associates Degree for Apparel Merchandising. I then transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where I received a B.S. in Apparel Merchandising and Management, with an Emphasis in Production. During the course of my studies I completely fell in love with production and all the various facets involved. I was fascinated by the complexities, the numerous steps needed to create and sell a single garment.

During the course of my career in production, I became increasingly aware of the waste, bad labor practices, pollution and deep exhaustion of resources that comes along with producing apparel. At the same time, I also began to see that by appealing to consumers who valued more than just style, quality, and price, we could have an impact in changing bad production habits. When given a choice, many consumers would rather align themselves with brands and products that value ethical, environmentally conscious supply chains.

Having worked in the fashion industry with key players, I believe there is more than one solution, but it all starts with fostering mindful consumption habits. My goal with Chika Boom Boom is to design and manufacture fun-fashionable swimwear, but to do so in an ethically, responsible way that generates awareness. This applies to our labor practices, sourcing, production, and sales. I ask you as our customer to join us in taking action and holding us accountable on this journey.

To our blog readers and customers, thank you for your support on this ongoing and evolving journey of purpose and for letting Chika Boom Boom be a part of your journey.

With love and hope,
